New Company Name and Logo

Success of Cologne Chip exceeds all Expectations
Since Cologne Chip Designs GmbH was established in 1994, the world market
for ISDN has been constantly growing. During the past 18 months ISDN was
even gaining an unexpected high number of new subscribers world-wide. Cologne
Chip offers the best chip solutions for Internet access over ISDN as well
as for digital PABX. Furthermore the ISDN controllers made by Cologne Chip
offer remarkable high functional integration as well as excellent value-for-money.
Also technical support it one of the big strengths of Cologne Chip. So
it was no wonder that Cologne Chip became very successful during the past
6 years. With a growth rate of approx. 100 % each year the success of Cologne
Chip exceeds all expectations.
"Cologne Chip AG" was founded in May 2000 due to this enormous increase
of business.
Previous Cologne Chip Designs is organized as "GmbH" (= limited company)
while new Cologne Chip is an "AG" (= limited company by shares). The capital
of Cologne Chip AG was increased by approx. 20 times compared to the old
Cologne Chip Designs GmbH.
Effective from 1st of June, 2000 the complete business of Cologne Chip
Designs GmbH is transferred to Cologne Chip AG.
The new company logo shows the famous Cologne Cathedral, which is a
synonym for the city of Cologne. We added a stylized silicon wafer to the
logo. The blue squares in the new logo are taken from a quarter of this
wafer - they symbolize the silicon die inside the chip. So the logo is
really a "talking logo" - it says: "Cologne Chip".

The board of directors consists of seven board members:
Dr. Michael Gude (see photo), who was originally responsible for research
& development, is chairman of the board (CEO). Klaus Winterscheidt,
Harald Schaefer and Jörg Ciesielski are director finance &
logistics, director sales & marketing and chief technical officer (CTO).

The Cologne Chip AG is under supervision of three
board members: Hermann-Josef Kirschbaum, who is chairman of the
supervisory board (right), Uwe Jahnke (left) and Lutz Hempel (middle).

With the new company organization Cologne Chip enhances its efforts
to serve customers demands in an excellent way. Of course all known people
at Cologne Chip will be happy to assist you in future, too.

"Wake up on ISDN" with a passive card
In April 2000 Digi International
introduced its new "Digi DataFire Micro V". This ISDN board is the world's
first passive ISDN card which fully supports ACPI power management including
"Wake up on ISDN" functionality. The card is based on the HFC-S
PCI A ISDN controller from Cologne Chip.
By
using some unique characteristics of HFC-S PCI A Digi was able to add two
remarkable features to their new product:
The card can be used in 5V PCI slots as well as in 3.3V PCI slots. So
Digi's ISDN board is one of the first world-wide being fully compliant
to the PCI 2.2 specification.
Furthermore DataFire Micro V can detect incoming ISDN calls and wake
up the host PC. Traditional ISDN cards won't work when the PC is in ACPI
power management mode D3cold (e.g. "Suspend to Disk"), because the PCI
bus is switched off. But in this case the HFC-S PCI A can be powered from
a 3.3V auxiliary supply power. So the chip is still able to detect state
changes on the S/T line and to generate a power management event, when
an ISDN call comes in. This feature is extremely helpful for the implementation
of G3/G4 fax reception and answering machine functionality. For further
information please see the datasheet
of HFC-S PCI A (chapter 3.3).

Sample Circuitry for Universal PCI Boards
|
|
Nowadays 3.3V environments become more and more common for the PCI bus.
As Cologne's single chip solution for ISDN PCI cards HFC-S
PCI A can be operated at 5V as well as 3.3V our engineers have developed
an universal PCI board sample circuitry for both 3.3V and 5V power supply
(auto detection). The sample
schematic can be downloaded as PDF-file.
Cologne Chip has released the HFC-S PCI
A which is compliant to the latest PCI
specification 2.2. The new chip is pin to pin compatible to its predecessor
HFC-S PCI. The old chip HFC-S PCI is not recommended for new projects.
By end of January the PCI spec. 2.2 has been released by the PCI
Special Interest Group (PCI SIG). As Cologne Chip is a member of the
PCI SIG we are proud to be one of the first companies world-wide already
fully supporting the new PCI 2.2 spec.
The HFC-S PCI A chip is ready for ACPI and supports power management
according to the PC 99 standard.
A new series of S/T-Hybrid transformer modules with the complete S/T
interface circuitry integrated (receiver and transmitter circuitry) for
Cologne Chips ISDN controller chips is now available from APC.
3.3V and 5V versions can be obtained.
For further information please see APC's
web pages.
The
HFC-S
PCI A, the HFC-S+ and HFC-SP
have been certified for 3.3V and 5V power supply by the TÜV Laboratories.
They are the first ISDN controllers with integrated S/T interface on the
world market certified for 3.3V power supply.
Due to their fully digital CMOS architecture the chips can be operated
at every voltage between 3.0V and 5.0V. This predestines them to utilization
in PCMCIA cards or USB TAs and all low power applications.
